The problem we saw

The existing lead platforms — HomeAdvisor, Angi, HomeStars, Thumbtack — were built on a simple but deeply flawed premise: charge contractors for access to homeowners, regardless of outcome.
The same lead sold to five or ten contractors simultaneously. Charges triggered the moment a name and phone number was released — before you could even call. Annual contracts with early termination penalties. Monthly fees that continued whether leads were good or not.
In January 2023, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission ordered HomeAdvisor to pay $7.2 million to more than 110,000 contractors it had defrauded. That case confirmed what contractors already knew: the system was designed to extract money from them, not help them grow.
